My nephew in the army

Now many of you can boast of a nephew who is as old as you and is also your good friend???
hey..i can...
:)
Thats beacuse my father is the youngest amongst his siblings and my nephew's grandmother ,that is , my aunt, is the oldest......

and whats more, no matter in which god-forsaken place he is in, he always makes it a point to write two letters , one for me and another for my sis.....
I just received his letter this weekend...only this time he will tell me where he is, he is in delhi now, getting some training...

sometime back, he visited chennai and came to my house, as always...that is something real nice about him..he makes it a point to visit all his relatives, everytime he comes to chennai..whether they bothered to contact him ,all the while ,or not...

i reply to his every letter....that is the only letter i get..no one writes letters these days....

The last time, he visited us, we were discussing his job and mine...he would always have loads to say about his adventures....he had once written in his letter that, being a commando, he was authorized to kill anyone...he sadly notes, if he didn't finish them, they would finish him....

Our discussions finally led us to the oft-visited territory, money....it was then that i figured out that my take home salary was more than his.....and i do no great thing like him..he stays in god-forsaken places and contributes towards the country's security ..also he greaduated from the NDA and them IMA, so he is an officer in the army...and whats more, even i think i am making peanuts ...........

i guess he was a little confused then about his career choice.......
with that thought he travelled back to delhi....i forgot about writing to him, till i got his letter...in which ge notes that he did ponder about his career choice.....

but says that all that doubt disappeared, when he got to jump 5 times from an helicopter or something.....there was a certain thrill in doing that......and also the social life....and the medical benefits , and other subsideries for his entire family..he says that he doesn't repent his decision at all.....i like it..he says..despite the fact that i may be making more than him.....
:)

and he also urged me to take the iniative to contact all those people rather than wait for them to get in touch with me.....
which is my resolution henceforth
:)

PS: i have to fill up my performance appraisal form....so i guess i may not be putting up any more posts....so have fun!
:)

I've always looked upon ppl in the defence, with a lot of respect! You are lucky that you have one, in your family... I wish I could talk personally with someone in the defence too! There is so much to learn and so much we can realise, from these men of honor..

as vatsan said it is not right to compare just based on the take home pay. the perks in some of the government jobs are quite high. it is definitely lifestyle oriented. Sadly not many from the south aspire to enter the armed forces (unless somebody else in the family has been in a similar role).

monu said...

@kaps
it is lifestyle oriented....thats what even my nephew says.....and thats why he is contended too....

and yep, not many aspire..simply because of the risk involved....

first tu i wud like to say ppl who study and work in india are doing a very big economic service to the country. this economic growth is wat made us take notice of india,
army is no doubt imortant, but economy of a nation is like a secondry invisible battlefield!
