Vinayagar chathurthi – Then and now

Then:
When I wait patiently for the beautiful Lord Ganesha Idol to come home.Yes he looked real cute, but I had special interest in the clay that came along for the kodai. I would make all kind of funny shapes with it (and get my hand all messy in the process)
Now:
I put the maakkolam in my house the day before and make choppu for kozhukattai after getting up early!

Then:
I would wait eagerly for the pooja to get over , for, only after the pooja can we have the kozhukattais..and be the first to grab them once the pooja is over. In fact I hurriedly say my prayers , shower the flowers on the new Ganesha so the pooja can over real fast

Somethings never change!!!!!!

My mom

My mom does some real cute stuff sometimes!!
Like what she did the day after the Vinayagar Chathurthi Pooja. She asked me to put the Ganesha on the “paran” (loft).
“Shouldn’t we be sending our cute Ganesha to beach ?”, I asked her.
To which my mom replied, “No I won’t send him away. I have some prayers from him and only after they are answered, I will send him away”
Seems during last year Vinayagay chathurthi, my mom prayed to the lord for a “kutti-pillayaar” and then Sriram (my nephew) comes along….and so she has continued the practice
:)
I thought that was cute.

And I have just about begun cooking. I used to cook when I was in school and then lost touch during final years in school and college. So now I have ventured into the kitchen to help mom and also learn some cooking.

The days when I cook under mom’s supervision, the food turns out good. I even made a lip-smackingly nice Onion Sambhar. And so inspired by that success, I made upma, un-supervisd by mom and it turned out to be Chinese torture.

I became really sad that I cant even make an upma. My mom asked me what happened and when I told her that I had added a little too much water, she told me that,
“Just change the name and call it Khichdi”
:)
Think about encouragement!!

Sriram:
Sriram just got back to Chennai today and lazy me gets up at 5 and leaves home by 7 so I can go to my sis’s house (on the way to office) and stay there for good 1 and half hour….. despite the fact that i had my performance appraisal meeting today and i hadn't filled it up. I came to office late.....who cares? I saw Sriram...
